Because you insure your property whilst it is in your house against loss, accidental damage
and theft, you should take the same precautions whilst it is being moved.
Whilst we pride ourselves in taking the up most care of you possessions. If you have valuables
or irreplaceable items then we always advise that you take out insurance.
You may be covered by your current household policy. Often you can simply add extra cover for
the removals onto your existing contents insurance. Taking a little time to check this will save
you money and worry.
It is a common misconception that there is a blanket coverage available to removalists that
takes care of all their clients moves. This is not the case, no such coverage exists. Be careful
of companies that offer these types of insurance as there might be quite ridged conditions and
exclusions which might leave you unprotected.
The Financial Services Reform Act now prohibits removalists from offering insurance without a
licence. Only insurance agents can offer this service. Two of the more commonly used insurance
companies for removals are Associated Marine (1800 267118 / www.associatedmarine.com.au) and
Removals Insurance (Tel:1300 880 253 / www.removalsinsurance.com.au).
It is better to be safe than sorry, you would not drive a car without insurance and you should
not move your goods without insurance. The above companies can assist you in acquiring full
breakage insurance which will cover you regardless of who is at fault.
